In a world where SUVs and crossovers rule the road, Mercedes-AMG is rolling out the second generation of its AMG GT coupe, and it’s packing some serious power. This new version isn’t just a makeover; it’s grown in size and features to meet the demands of GT enthusiasts who crave more.
2024 Mercedes-AMG GT power and performance
Under the hood, the heart of this beast is a robust 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine. But there’s a twist: you can choose between two power levels, depending on which GT model you go for. The AMG GT 55 boasts 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, linked to a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic. Step up to the GT 63, and you’ll get a whopping 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque from the same 4.0-liter engine.
And don’t worry about all that power going to waste. It’s skillfully managed by a sophisticated nine-speed automatic transmission that feeds into a high-tech 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

Second-gen Mercedes-AMG GT dimensions
This new AMG GT isn’t just about power; it’s also about size. The designers stretched it out by about 6.4 inches compared to the previous generation, giving it a total length of 186.1 inches. While it’s a tad narrower at 78.1 inches, it stands taller at 53.3 inches, making it about 3 inches taller than the old model.
Why the growth spurt? Well, that extra space is put to good use. Mercedes decided to add a 2+2 seating configuration, meaning you can now take along a couple of friends or family members for the ride. It’s a smart move that balances performance with practicality.
Suspension and Wheels
When you’re dealing with this much power, you need a suspension system that can handle it. Up front, there’s a double-wishbone setup, and in the rear, it’s a five-link configuration. But here’s where things get interesting: every piece of the suspension is made from strong, lightweight forged aluminum. This helps keep the car nimble and responsive.
But the innovation doesn’t stop there. Mercedes has introduced their Active Ride Control system in this new AMG GT. This system ditches traditional stabilizer bars in favor of smart interconnected dampers and hydraulics. The result? Better control over body roll, especially when you’re pushing the car through tight corners or hard braking situations.
2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Interior and Comfort
Step inside the AMG GT, and you’ll find a mix of modern and luxurious features. There’s a huge 11.9-inch media screen sitting right in the middle of the dashboard, accompanied by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. And guess what? The car comes with the MBUX digital assistant, so you’re never far from getting answers to your questions or directions.
The comfort level is cranked up too. The seats adapt to your driving style, offering the right amount of support. And if that’s not enough, you can even opt for seats that give you a massage while you drive.
Second gen Mercedes-AMG GT Braking
With great power comes the need for great brakes, and the AMG GT delivers. The car is equipped with composite brake rotors that help keep the weight down and performance up. The front rotors are a whopping 15.4 inches, while the rear ones are 14.2 inches. They’re hugged by six-piston calipers in the front and single-piston calipers in the back, which also handle the electronic parking brake.
2024 Mercedes-AMG GT launch and price
Excited to see this beauty in person? Well, you’ll need to wait a bit and catch it at events like the Monterey Car Week. But the wait won’t be too long. Mercedes plans to have these new AMG GTs at dealerships in the first half of 2024. As for the price, they haven’t spilled the beans yet, but it’s likely to be in the ballpark of the current AMG SL variants. With the starting price of the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 around $141,000, expect the AMG GT to follow suit and offer incredible value for the performance and luxury it brings to the table.
