In response to the growing global electric vehicle trend, Kia and Hyundai have introduced a range of products to align with the increasing demand for electric vehicles and the push towards net zero carbon emissions. Kia has now unveiled a new addition to their global lineup – the EV5. The production model retains most of the design attributes showcased in the EV5 concept.
Official images provide a sneak peek into the EV5, which marks Kia’s third electric vehicle built on the e-GMP platform. The unveiling took place at the Chengdu Motor Show. While there are possibilities of the EV5 making its way to India, it is positioned above the Seltos EV.

Kia EV5 design
The recently introduced Kia EV5 and the EV9, the company’s top-of-the-line electric SUV, have similar visual aesthetics. The smaller Kia EV4 is also influenced by EV5 design cues. The SUV has a strong stance and distinctive proportions, and its front fascia combines modern and minimalist features. The 3D LED DRLs have been given ‘Signature Star Map Lighting’, which gives them a more upscale appearance.
The side profile of the EV5 boasts strong lines and aerodynamic wheels, while the rear design cues draw inspiration from the EV6. Based on leaked homologation documents, the Kia EV5 measures 4615 mm in length, 1875 mm in width, 1715 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2750 mm. The listed kerb weight is 1870 kg.
Kia EV5 Battery and Range
The vehicle features a single motor layout, powered by a 160 kW (218 bhp) motor from Vitesco Automotive Electronics (Tianjin) Co, generating a peak torque of 310 Nm. Two potential versions of the Kia EV5 are anticipated: one for the Chinese market with an LFP battery produced by Xiangyang Fudi Battery Co., Ltd. (also known as FinDreams), a subsidiary of BYD, and a global version with an 82 kWh NMC battery pack. The global version boasts a claimed range of up to 600 km.
Kia EV5 color options
Kia offers customers a choice of nine glossy colors for the EV5 along with a Matte Ivory Silver option. The glossy color options include Magma Red, Starry Night Black, Ivory Silver, Clear White, Snow White Pearl, Iceberg Green, Tide Blue, Frost Blue, and Shale Grey.
Kia EV5 Interior
The interior of the EV5 offers various upholstery options for the base model, including two woven fabrics and synthetic leather. The cabin showcases four distinct color options and five seat patterns. Notably, the interior incorporates 64-color ambient lighting, which includes features such as a high-speed warning.
Kia EV5 Launch and Expected Price
The official launch of the Kia EV5 is scheduled for the upcoming year. If the vehicle arrives in India, it is expected to be priced within the Rs 40-50 lakh price bracket.
